The journey I took with you in this subject enriched me as it enriched you. If you learned a lot, I also did.

I'm kind of sad for not being able to teach this semester, but I am welcoming the opportunity to be focusing on other things of equal importance as teaching.You guys and the the program will forever be part of me and I don't think I could stay away for long (hopefully).

Remain true and committed to the profession. Teach to others whatever good you learned in any of the subjects. Make a conscious effort everyday to make yourself better, this will result to the program being better too.

May the good and positive force be with you every moment. I will look forward to being with you again in one class or two.

I Love Living Life. I Am Happy.

This video was shared by Mam Winnie Amores during our Personal encounter activity last September 11, 2011. One statement she told us “There’s no perfect in this world but you are created perfectly just the way you are!” No matter what you look like, where you came from, how you have been brought up to this world you are still perfect.

We are still blessed more than anything we knew because we are still complete physically. We should be thankful of the things what we have now and stop complaining on what we don’t have. 

It was one of the best activities we had for this semester! Thank you to our mentors and to our personal coach as well!

HOTS in Social Work

The course is easy, it is not well recognized nor understood that's probably why only a few are led to take it. It does not require much intelligence, and I agree. Intelligence to me is knowing and memorizing a book from cover to cover, and perfecting an exam both in written and in oral form.

Intelligence is not a requisite to social work, because the profession demands more than intelligence - it requires WISDOM.

As against mere intelligence, wisdom entails the ability to apply whatever was learned either through self study, observation or the more formal learning methods of classroom discussion and seminars or training.

Intelligence is knowledge that is kept in the circles of the mind. Wisdom is knowledge translated to action to fulfill the goals of the profession, to practice its beliefs and its principles thereby touching the lives of both the resource consumer and the resource provider.

They question about the ability of the social work students and the social workers to perform higher order thinking (HOT). We don't call it HOT in social work, we call it critical thinking. It is the constant use of the brain by always asking the questions what, why, when, where, whom, and how with every information or in every situation.

The bar of excellence for the Social Work Program and of the Profession has been raised a tier higher. Naturally when one is doing well the spotlight of attention will be pointed to your direction. This is I think what is happening now. We are being watched and we are being observed. Personally, I think that it is the perfect opportunity for us to introduce and convince all that is looking our way to the nobility of the profession.

Let us not engage in the war of the words (that's a waste of energy), let us work harder at glorify the profession by infusing excellence and love in whatever we do as we carry the brand of being a social work student or a social worker. Let our work and its outcome speak of the caliber of thinking and wisdoms that we have.

Whuddapak!

I was browsing online for pictures I could use for a project about Traditional and Modern Filipinos, and of course my dear friend Google was always ready to help me out. I was even aiming to find a particular photo that will depict the joy, warmth and prestige that will come to mind when one thinks of the word- FILIPINO. But to my demise, the power of technology slapped the reality right into my face.

and worst..

and you'll see what I mean.

My sister recently discovered somebody on Youtube under the username FilipinoUnggoy, a Filipino hater (as in somebody who abhors Filipinos in general) who posted his angst and disdain online. He (I'm assuming its a he), uploaded videos and blogged about why he hated the Filipino so much. When my sister told me about it, my initial response was, "Maybe he's a professional online heckler. People today do get paid just to say crap online about other people."

But after I read his words, I could say yes he hates us. He does. He really does.

And I don't blame him. Most of the things he described are really happening in the Filipino Society right now.

What I saw today on my quest to present a simple school project led me to serendipity. Not expecting it at all.

Okay, Maybe I still want to be a Filipino though...how about you?

Mary's Nativity

As we are entering the month of September, which is the month of our two beloved mothers; the blessed virgin mary and Venerable Ignacia del Espiritu Santo,. Lourdes College will be conducting a joint celebration for September 8, 2011 Mary's Nativity and September 10, 2011 Mother Ignacia's Death Anniversary will be celebrated as one on September 9, 2011 highlighted with renewal of commitment and pledging of commitment as members of Mother Ignacia Movement.

All Social Work Students are advised to attend a meeting tomorrow Friday September 2, 2011 5:30 pm for the planning of activities in relation to the celebration and also please prepare your respective groups for the quiz bowl tomorrow, the focus is general education (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, Social Studies)

One story to be remembered forever

A young man was getting ready to graduate college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box.

Curious, but somewhat disappointed the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible. Angrily, he raised his voice at his father and said, “With all your money you give me a Bible?” and stormed out of the house, leaving the holy book. Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business.

     

He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care things. When he arrived at his father’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart.

He began to search his father’s important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. As he read those words, a car key dropped from an envelope taped behind the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words…PAID IN FULL.
